Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook

Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook, located in Los Angeles, CA, is one place where people can come to experience the best views of the city. This location is high up and offers a great view of L.A., not just day but night time as well. There are lots of trails here, so visitors will be able to hike around and explore all that this location has to offer.

Well-maintained trails for hikers, bikers and horseback riders surround the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook. From here, there are sweeping views of Los Angeles to the south and west. To the northeast, one can see a spectacular view of Mt. Wilson and the San Gabriel Mountains in all its glory.

This area was once a private estate known as "Baldwin Farms." The Scenic Overlook opened to the public in 2004 and attracts over 70,000 visitors every year. There are other scenic overlooks located elsewhere in Los Angeles, but the natural beauty of the Baldwin Hills is hard to beat.

Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook Facilities

The Scenic Overlook has a visitors center that features interpretive exhibits, including photographs of the surrounding areas. There are bathrooms, water fountains and vending machines at the complex. In addition, there is a picnic area for people to have a meal outside.

Most of the trails in the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook area are short and easy-going so most visitors will be able to complete them within a few hours. If they feel ambitious, hikers can continue onto the longer trails in the adjacent Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area.

Many of the trails have been rehabilitated by park rangers and volunteers over the past two years. This included clearing debris from the paths, repairing stairs and handrails, restoring fire roads, and adding a few new ones that had previously been opened up to illegal motorbikes.

To get there, take the I-10 Freeway to the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard exit and drive south for about three miles. Just before entering Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook on Culver Blvd., there is a parking lot on the right side of the road. There are restrooms here as well as places to buy food and drinks.
