Hermosa Beach Pier

Hermosa Beach Pier, located in, Los Angeles, CA, is a coastal pier that stretches 197 feet into the Pacific Ocean. The pier was built in 1904 and is now part of a revitalized beachfront area crammed with shops, restaurants, bars, and services.

 

Hermosa Beach Pier has been featured in many movies including Point Break (1991), Forrest Gump (1994), and Batman Forever (1995) .

 

In 2004, Hermosa Beach Pier was completely rebuilt from the ground up. The pier is now composed of concrete and steel. Since the pier's construction in 1904, it has undergone many changes including a ban on fishing years ago to save the dolphins whom fisherman would accidentally catch with their lines while trying to catch other fish. Another change was that in the 1980s, Hermosa Beach Pier was even shortened due to coastal erosion.

Hermosa Beach Pier Restaurants - Several restaurants and bars exist along the Hermosa Beach Pier. Popular dishes include fish tacos, fresh shrimp or lobster, fried calamari, and Kobe beef burgers. The pier itself has many food kiosks and concession stands for a quick bite to eat while enjoying views of the ocean and beach below.

Hermosa Beach Pier Gift Shops - Several gift shops can be found along the Hermosa Beach Pier where you can find anything from sunglasses and beachwear to locally made crafts and souvenirs.

Hermosa Beach Pier Fishing - Fishing is allowed along Hermosa Beach Pier, but only for children 12 years or younger. The fishing season goes from late May to late September.

Hermosa Beach Pier Activities -The activities available along with Hermosa Beach Pier range from renting electric bicycles, paddleboards, surfboards, kayaks and jet skis. You can also purchase tickets for a ride on the pier's historic carousel or Ferris wheel.

Not only is Hermosa Beach Pier an attraction in Hermosa Beach, it is also a popular beach destination. Hermosa Beach Pier has an area set aside for volleyball courts which are usually packed with people playing. The pier also has several public beaches along its edge where you can sit at one of their many picnic benches and enjoy the ocean views or rent beach equipment like umbrellas, kayaks, and surfboards.

Hermosa Beach Pier Details

The Hermosa Beach pier is located in the Southern California community of Hermosa Beach. It extends into the Pacific Ocean. In 1904 the first pier was built. It was constructed entirely of wood even to the pilings and it extended five hundred feet out into the ocean.
